Course Description: ScrumMaster Certification for Agile Software Project Management

Certified ScrumMaster Course Description (downloadable pdf).

Agile project management is as radically different from traditional project management as agile processes are different from traditional methodologies. Rather than plan, instruct and direct, the agile project manager facilitates, coaches and serves. In the Scrum Agile practice this person is called a ScrumMaster.

In this course participants learn how to guide the development team, a project, or an organization into Agile practice by fostering the adoption of new attitudes, collaborative processes and working to remove institutional barriers. Exercises, case studies, and examples are used to assist participants to develop the knowledge, skills, capabilities and insights needed to make the shift from traditional management practice to Agile practice.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • To practice agile project management practices to enable hyper-productive projects and teams;

  • To teach the customer how to maximize ROI and meet their objectives through Scrum;

  • To improve the productivity of the development team in any way possible;

  • To remove the barriers between development and the customer so there is healthy collaboration;

  • To improve the lives of the development team by facilitating creativity and empowerment; and,

Mishkin Berteig is a seasoned agile consultant and instructor with 10 years of experience with agile projects. Mishkin is a certified ScrumMaster (Trainer) and agile coach who has worked with clients such as Charles Schwab, and CapitalOne. Mishkin is a principal contributor to Agile Advice.

Mishkin teaches aspects of the Scrum methodology one cannot learn from reading books. Participants focus on becoming effective agile project managers - ScrumMasters - through the sharing of anecdotes, interactive discussion, participatory exercises and creative materials.

Agile methodologies are the way of the future and Mishking Breteig and his able bodied staff and volunteers deliver a very large amount of value in a very short amount of time. His class on agile project management answered many of my questions about Scrum and agile work, but it also raised so many more... This is good, because it means that my knowledge deepened during his class, something that rarely happens in an all day seminar on topics less interesting. - Alex Sirota, consultant to non profits and the public sector

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant receives an individual license and copy of the Scrum methodology, Scrum training materials, and Scrum software. In addition, Certified ScrumMasters are authorized to participate in "open" development of the Scrum methodology and software, ensuring a growing body of knowledge from a qualified, competent group of certified professionals. They are also listed as Certified ScrumMasters at CertifiedScrum.

Approximately one week prior to the course, all materials, methodology and training materials will be made available to confirmed attendees. An individual license to use these materials will be issued to those attendees who successfully complete the certification program.
