Deborah is passionate about making work valuable and rewarding, and thrives on helping teams and their customers discover the best ways to do this.
Deborah has over twenty years' experience in the IT industry, so she knows that process can help or hurt a team. She has mentored colleagues and improved the processes of numerous software development teams during her career. She has helped both adhoc teams and those with heavy PMO processes find balance and a new ability to produce quality.
Deborah has been a developer, o-o analyst, business analyst, methodology lead and IT consultant. She has worked in engineering, financial, and publishing industries, and in all levels of government. Deborah has a college diploma in systems analysis and undergraduate studies in computer science and the fine arts.
From helping small teams get started with Agile, to assisting with the enterprise-wide rollout of an Agile software development methodology, helping both customer and development teams "make sense" of their work is Deborah's focus. Her Agile2006 conference paper (files below), emphasises that metrics must be appropriate to each team's context in order not to distract or mislead. Her paper offers heuristics and a template to help develop context-appropriate metrics for any team.
Deborah is an active contributor to the international Agile community, notably as editor of the InfoQ.com Agile queue, and as co-organizer of the international Qcon conference, where she collaborates with key Agile and Lean authors worldwide. Deborah is a Certified ScrumMaster, an Agile Process Improvement Coach, and facilitates OpenSpace conferences for the XPday North America team in Canada and the US.

When Deb's not herding cats she enjoys books, films, visiting old cities, laughter, and blogging at www.vitalbrew.com, not necessarily in that order :-)
