The ScrumMaster Training Interactive Case Study

One-on-One Interviews - Karen

Karen leads the way and takes you to her workstation. As she is showing you the system they are building, it becomes clear that she's a technical star. She knows the technology and all the challenges of the system inside and out. She expects you to follow along even though she's going very quickly. You let her - you'll figure it out soon enough.

She also complains a bit about the quality of the code. She's frustrated that she is constantly going back and cleaning up other people's work. If only everyone would follow the design that she came up with, then everything would be fine. "We really need to figure out a way to control what team members can touch and enforce that with a role-based configuration management system," she says. "This is a huge problem and I think you can help get the team to come on board with this."

How do you respond...

Tell her this is probably a bad idea and refuse outright to help her with this.
Tell her that as a ScrumMaster this isn't part of your job.
Let's talk about this at the next retrospective.
