Jeremy Introduces You to the Team
As Nick is leaving you at your desk, you are already mentally preparing to talk with Jeremy to get him to introduce you to the team. Your desk is in a typical office cubicle, Dilbert-style, and the other people you have seen at their desks are all intently working on their computers. Your desk isn't far from Jeremy's office. You walk over and poke your head in his door, which is open. "Hey Jeremy!" you say. "Nick just walked me to my desk. Since this is my first day, I'm hoping to get to know the team. Can I get you to introduce me to them?"
Jeremy seems to be like Nick - super enthusiastic. He jumps up and gives your hand a hearty shake. "Welcome to Zysoft! I'd love to introduce you to the team. They're having their daily Scrum at 9:30. Why don't we chat for a few moments and then I can take you over to them."
Jeremy gestures to a chair and you sit down. You've read a bit about Scrum so you can kinda follow along as he throws around words like "Sprint", "Burndown", "Velocity", and "Retrospective". He's filling you in on what they're doing. They've been using Scrum for about three months, and learning as they go. Jeremy is really excited about it, and his excitement is infectious.
He glances at his watch and jumps up. "Time to go meet the team!"
The two of you walk all the way to the other side of the floor to a mid-size conference room. There are about nine people sitting around a table, but it looks like they are still settling in. They haven't started yet. Someone grabs Jeremy and immediately starts talking at him about some big problem in their system. A couple more people walk into the room. Jeremy pulls himself away from the conversation and announces, "Listen up everyone. I'd like to introduce you to your new ScrumMaster." He then goes on to tell everyone how you used to work at Zysoft's competitor and how happy he is to have found you. He asks everyone to then start the Daily Scrum but to add in a few words of introduction so that you know who each person is.
Good thing you brought your notebook! You note down everyone's names. It takes about half an hour, but finally everyone finishes. Everyone starts standing up to leave the room. One of the people who introduced herself as a developer, Karen, approaches you and offers to show you the system they are building.
Do you...
Go with her since you were planning on doing one-on-one interviews next anyway.
Politely refuse and raise your voice to ask if everyone would mind staying for a few extra minutes so you can ask some questions.
