The ScrumMaster Training Interactive Case Study

Introduction: Starting a New Job as a ScrumMaster

You have just been hired to be the ScrumMaster for a team at Zysoft Corp. Your boss, Jeremy, hired you because he likes your attitude and because you have been a team lead at a competitor. But you have never been a ScrumMaster before. Jeremy assures you that you will do "just fine! Scrum is simple!" But some of the things Jeremy told you in your interview make you wonder if it will really be so easy...

Your first day of work starts. You arrive at the small, downtown office tower at 8:30am. As arranged, you are met by Nick, the HR person who was your first contact at Zysoft. Nick is all smiles. He warmly welcomes you and introduces you to the receptionist as you are signing in. It's a good thing Nick has so much energy! You aren't used to being up this early!

After signing in, Nick gets you to fill in some final paperwork. Nine AM is fast approaching. Nick says "Okay! Let's take you to your desk!"

You have been imagining your first day ever since you heard you got the job. You are ready to get to work and the first thing to do is:

Get Jeremy to introduce you to the team.
Set up your desk and workstation.
Meet Jeremy's boss.
